Project scope

The aim of this project is to update the current “Guide for the application of PSA in the safety management of nuclear power plants”, RR-6/2010 so that it takes into account both the current regulatory requirements and the conclusions and new approaches adopted in international plan after the accident at the Japanese nuclear power plant “Fukushima Daiichi”, the conducted stress tests of the European nuclear power plants, the development of technologies and programs for carrying out PSA, and the best international practices.
The use of PSA has emerged as a supplement to deterministic analyses to obtain a comprehensive view of the safety level reached.
PSA studies extend the traditional deterministic analysis to ensure that all safety-relevant aspects (equipment failures, design deficiencies, or various physical phenomena) are better captured and properly accounted for.
The manual presents methodological guidelines that should be taken into account when using PSA to support NPP safety management.
The manual covers the use of PSA at the design and operation stages of the NPP.
