Kozloduy NPP is the only nuclear power plant in Bulgaria and is the largest producer of electricity in the country, providing more than a third of the national annual electricity production. This, together with high operational safety and reliable electricity supply, defines its role as a key factor for the stability of the national electricity system and for the country’s energy security.

Object

The main goal of the Kozloduy NPP Information Center is to provide up-to-date information on the operation of the nuclear power plant, as well as on the benefits of nuclear energy for the country’s economy, sustainable development and the environment. It is also the starting point for visits to facilities located on the site of the nuclear power plant.

Scope of the project

Reconstruction of an existing administrative building in PI 37798.501.41 according to the cadastral map of the town of Kozloduy, for turning it into the Information Center of Kozloduy NPP EAD

Administrative building in PI 37798.501.41 according to the cadastral map of the town of Kozloduy is located in the central part of the city in a regulated plot of land, owned by Kozloduy NPP EAD. It was acquired by Kozloduy NPP EAD in 2014.
The subject of the working project developed by the design team of GCR AD, together with the partnership of architect – designers from the company “Nikilose” Ltd. is the internal reconstruction and change of purpose of the existing building in order to turn it into an information center to promote the work of Kozloduy NPP EAD, as a company providing safe, efficient and environmentally friendly energy production for the country and the region.
The internal reconstruction was designed on the basis of a concept defined by Kozloduy NPP EAD.

Results

The following functional zones are distinguished:

• Input-exit zone
• Visiting area and thematic exposition (divided into Kozloduy NPP, Introductory zone and Children’s Corner, together with an auditorium with an auxiliary room for multimedia and technical service, and a meeting room).

In area „​​Kozloduy NPP“ the main emphasis is on a realistic model of a part of the plant – Units 5 and 6. The principle of operation of the plant will be demonstrated, the number and structure of barriers for limiting radiation concerning the safe functionality of the NPP will be explained. The introductory zone will tell about the history and development of the nuclear industry, the use of the achievements in physics, the perspectives for the energy development and social and economic development of the Republic of Bulgaria.
A showcase with exhibits from uranium ore to a fuel tablet, a van de Graaf generator for demonstration of static electricity, etc. is envisaged.
